Baby UV Sunsuits

One piece to put on. Fully protected.

The UV sunsuit protects your baby from neck to knee – all in a single garment. Nothing slips, nothing gets forgotten. UPF 80 certified according to UV STANDARD 801, sewn in Croatia.

Maximum coverage, minimal effort

A UV sunsuit is the easiest way to comprehensively protect your baby from UV radiation. One garment, one quick step – and the upper body, belly, back, and thighs are completely protected. No matching different pieces, no risk of the shirt riding up and exposing the belly.

Why this matters

Babies are constantly being lifted, turned, and moved around. When using a separate shirt and pants, the top frequently rides up – leaving the sensitive belly unprotected in the sun. A one-piece sunsuit stays exactly where it belongs, no matter how active your baby is.

When a one-piece sunsuit is the better choice

A UV shirt and UV pants make a good combination. However, in certain situations, a sunsuit is the smarter solution.

UV Sunsuit

  • Slip on one piece – and you're good to go
  • No riding up, no exposed belly
  • Maximum coverage in a single step
  • Ideal for babies who are constantly on the move
  • Less sunscreen needed (only face, hands, feet)
  • No need to match or combine different pieces
  • Easier for quick clothing changes at the beach

Separate Shirt + Pants

  • Shirt rides up while crawling and being lifted
  • Gaps at the belly with every movement
  • Two separate pieces to put on and take off
  • Both items must fit perfectly at the same time
  • Higher risk of leaving spots unprotected
  • More individual items to pack and wash
  • More flexible for fluctuating temperatures

Having both is ideal: The sunsuit for maximum protection on beach days and excursions. Separate shirts and pants when you need more flexibility – for example, on days when only the upper body or only the legs need coverage.

Where a UV sunsuit makes the most sense

Situation Is a sunsuit ideal? Why
Beach & Ocean Perfect One piece, full protection, quick-drying
Wading Pool Perfect In and out of the water, dries in minutes
Vacation Perfect One item instead of three – less luggage, quick dressing
Crawling Stage Perfect No riding up, protects both belly and back
Playground Very good Durable, stays securely in place while playing
Extremely hot days (35 °C+) Good, but consider shorties + shirt In extreme heat, less fabric can feel more comfortable
Did you know?

A UV sunsuit made of polyamide-elastane is lighter and more breathable than a cotton bodysuit. Babies are less likely to overheat in it compared to conventional clothing – the material actively cools through evaporation.

What does this mean for your child? Babies don't wear UV shirts brand-new and bone-dry in a lab – they wear them wet in the pool, stretched while playing, and washed after every single beach day. That is exactly when the protection needs to hold up. UPF 50+ is only measured in brand-new condition. UPF 80 certified according to UV STANDARD 801 guarantees protection under all real-life conditions of a baby's daily routine.

Since 2001: UV protection for the youngest ones

When hyphen was founded in 2001, UV protection clothing for babies was practically non-existent in Germany. The UV sunsuit was one of our very first products – because it delivers exactly what parents need: maximum protection with minimal effort.

25 Years
Pioneer for UV protective clothing in Germany
UV STANDARD 801 since day 1 The strictest UV testing standard – tested wet, stretched, and used. No compromises, since 2001.
UPF 80 – Always Highest protection factor. Less than 1.3% UV transmission. Not as a premium add-on, but as a standard for every single product.
Pharmacy Approval The only provider of UV protective clothing in Germany approved for sale in pharmacies.
Sewn in Croatia Just 550 km from Munich. European manufacturing with transparent conditions. No 20,000 km sea route from Asia.

The UV sunsuit was the idea that started it all: a single garment designed to protect babies all around. No compromises, no gaps. For 25 years, this idea has been at the very core of hyphen.

Baby UV Sunsuits – Parents Ask

Yes – and significantly more. All hyphen products provide UPF 80, tested according to the world's strictest standard (UV STANDARD 801). UPF 50+ is the industry standard, and hyphen exceeds it by 60%. While UPF 50+ is only tested in brand-new condition, UPF 80 according to UV STANDARD 801 guarantees safety even when wet, stretched, and after use – which is crucial for baby clothes that are washed very frequently.
A UV sunsuit provides all-in-one protection – from the neck down to the knees or ankles. Nothing slips, no bellies get exposed, and no gaps form between the shirt and pants. This is a crucial advantage, especially for active babies who crawl, roll, and are frequently lifted up.
No, all areas covered by the sunsuit are protected by UPF 80. Only apply sunscreen to the exposed areas: face, hands, and feet. For babies under 6 months, dermatologists do not recommend sunscreen anyway – the UV sunsuit is the only recommended form of protection here.
No. The polyamide-elastane blend (78% polyamide, 22% elastane) is significantly lighter and more breathable than cotton. It cools through evaporative cooling and dries within 10 to 15 minutes. Babies actually sweat less in a UV sunsuit than in a standard cotton bodysuit.
No. hyphen UV sunsuits are specifically cut to ensure quick and easy dressing. The highly elastic fabric makes changing diapers uncomplicated – significantly easier than dealing with a rigid cotton jumpsuit.
Yes. The UV protection at hyphen is achieved through the structural weave density of the fiber, not through a chemical coating. It is physically embedded in the fiber structure and cannot wash out. The UV STANDARD 801 certification explicitly tests the fabric in a used and washed state. Baby clothing is washed exceptionally often – and that is exactly what this standard is designed for.
